The Columbus Schools are looking for substitute drivers, activity drivers, and three new bus route drivers for the 2026-2027 school year! We want to work with you NOW to successfully earn your Commercial Driver License and school bus/passenger endorsements during this current school year in order to qualify you for a position with us. Gain experience this year as you successfully become one of our newest staff members for the upcoming year.
EARN $15/HR. WHILE YOU TRAIN! To become certified, we will set you up with a paid, self-study
opportunity using a computer-based training program (approximately 10 hours) leading you toward the successful completion of a DMV written test. After completing this first step, you will qualify for a Commercial Driver’s Learner Permit. This allows us to then work with you on learning to drive a school bus. We will work diligently with you on training for the practical tests leading up to a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the S (School Bus) and P (Passenger) endorsements, qualifying you as a school bus driver. Assistance and one-on-one training will all but guarantee your success in passing the written and practical tests and leading to the acquisition of a school bus driver’s license. Then, you let us know if you are wanting to substitute drive, haul activity students to events, or become a school bus route driver for the upcoming year.
Route drivers currently receive four (4) guaranteed hours per day, $21+ per hour in pay, health
insurance, paid sick and vacation leave, and they earn retirement benefits through Montana’s PERS system.
